About the role
You are the person on site. You install and commission the equipment, you make it work in conditions that are nothing like a lab, and you are often the only OKTAGATE face a client sees.
The southern region covers corporate offices in Basra and remote energy sites where the nearest colleague is four hours away. That means the work is varied and the standard is high: what you install has to keep running without you, and what you document is what the NOC will rely on at three in the morning.
You will be based in our Basra office, reporting to the Field Services Supervisor, with regular travel across Basra, Missan and Dhi Qar and periodic rotations to remote sites.
What you will do
- Install and terminate structured cabling in copper and fibre, then certify links and hand over the test results.
- Rack, cable, label and power up switches, firewalls, servers, UPS units and NVRs to our installation standard.
- Install and align CCTV cameras, access control readers, door hardware and barriers.
- Commission pre-built remote site kits and prove failover before you leave.
- Carry out preventive maintenance visits: filters, battery checks, firmware, cable management, photographs.
- Attend on-site incidents dispatched by the NOC and work with a remote engineer to resolve them.
- Record every visit accurately: what you found, what you did, serial numbers, photographs.
- Manage the local spares stock and flag what needs replenishing.
What we are looking for
- Two or more years of hands-on IT, telecoms or electrical installation work.
- Confident with copper and fibre termination and testing. Fusion splicing experience is a strong advantage.
- Comfortable working at height, in plant rooms and in hot conditions, with proper attention to safety.
- Able to read a rack elevation, a cable schedule and a single-line diagram.
- Basic networking: IP addressing, VLANs, and enough to bring a device online and test it.
- Genuinely careful documentation. Neat work and accurate records matter more here than speed.
- Valid driving licence and willingness to travel and stay overnight at remote sites.
- Arabic, plus enough English to follow technical documentation and speak to the NOC.
Nice to have
- CCNA, CompTIA Network+ or a vendor installation certification.
- Experience on oil and gas sites, including site inductions and permit-to-work systems.
- Hikvision, Dahua or ZKTeco commissioning experience.
- Electrical qualification, or experience working alongside site electricians.
- Satellite or LTE equipment installation and alignment.
What we offer
- Sponsored certification and a clear route into the network or systems engineering tracks. Several of our engineers started here.
- Proper tools, test equipment and personal protective equipment, provided and maintained.
- Travel and subsistence allowances, and rotation arrangements for remote deployments.
- Compensated out-of-hours call-outs, rostered rather than ad hoc.
- Health cover for you and your dependants, transport allowance and 22 days of leave.
- Training on every new product line before you are sent to install it.
What the practical assessment involves. Two paid hours in our lab: terminate and certify a link, rack and cable a small stack to our standard, and bring a device online. We are looking at your method and your finishing, not your speed.
