Cookie policy

This website does not use tracking cookies. There is no analytics platform, no advertising pixel and no social media tracker on any page. This is the full account of what is stored in your browser and why.

The short version. One item is stored on your device: whether you chose the light or dark theme. It never leaves your browser, it is not a cookie, and it is not sent to us or to anybody else. That is why you will not see a consent banner on this site. There is nothing to consent to.

1. What cookies and similar technologies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store and then sends back to that website on every subsequent request. Cookies are how most sites remember a login session, and also how most advertising networks follow people between sites.

Related technologies do similar jobs without being cookies. localStorage keeps information in your browser but, unlike a cookie, it is never transmitted with a request. Pixels, web beacons and fingerprinting scripts identify visitors without storing anything at all. This policy covers all of them, because what matters is the effect on your privacy rather than the technical label.

2. What this site actually stores

NameTypePurposeExpires
og-theme localStorage, first party Remembers whether you chose the light or dark version of the site, so it does not reset every time you open a page. Until you clear your browser storage

That is the complete list. It is set only if you click the theme toggle in the header. It holds a single word, either light or dark. It contains no identifier, it is not transmitted to our server, and it cannot be read by any other website.

3. What this site does not use

  • No analytics. There is no Google Analytics, Plausible, Matomo or any other measurement platform. We do not know how many people visit, which pages they read or where they came from, beyond what our host's raw server logs show.
  • No advertising or retargeting. No Meta pixel, no LinkedIn Insight Tag, no Google Ads remarketing tag.
  • No social media embeds. Our social links are ordinary hyperlinks. Nothing loads from a social network until you click.
  • No session or authentication cookies. There is nothing to log in to on this site.
  • No fingerprinting. We do not profile your device, canvas, fonts or screen configuration.
  • No third-party cookies of any kind.

4. The one third-party request

The site loads two typefaces, Plus Jakarta Sans and Inter, from Google Fonts. That request goes to fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com, which means Google receives your IP address and browser user-agent in the same way it would for any file downloaded from the internet. Google states that it does not set cookies on font requests and does not use the data for advertising.

If you would rather nothing at all left our domain, the fonts can be self-hosted. That change is planned and is noted in the site's own technical documentation. Until then, this paragraph is here so the position is stated honestly rather than buried.

5. Server logs

Our hosting provider records standard access logs: IP address, timestamp, page requested, response code and user-agent. These are produced by the web server itself, not by anything running in your browser, and they exist so that the site can be kept online and secure. They are typically kept for about thirty days and are not used to build a profile of anyone.

6. How to control what is stored

Because we store only a theme preference, there is very little to manage. If you want to remove it:

  1. Open your browser settings and find the privacy or site data section.
  2. Search for oktagate.com.
  3. Clear the stored site data. Your theme will simply return to the default on the next visit.

You can also block or clear storage for all sites, or browse in a private or incognito window, which discards everything when you close it. Nothing on this site breaks if you do. If you use a tracker-blocking extension, you will find it has nothing to block here.

7. If this changes

If we ever add analytics or any other non-essential technology, we will update this page, change the effective date, and present a genuine consent choice before anything is set. A choice means being able to decline as easily as accept, and having the site work normally either way. We will not use a banner that only offers "accept".

See also our privacy policy, which covers personal information more generally.

Note for review. This policy is accurate for the site as built today. If you add analytics, a chat widget, an embedded map, a video embed or a marketing pixel, this page becomes wrong immediately and a consent mechanism becomes necessary. Update it in the same change as the tag.
